Understanding Chasca in Genshin Impact

Chasca is introduced in Natlan’s Archon Quest as a formidable warrior coming from the Tlalocan, the Flower-Feather Clan. They are a mighty people well-suited for tough jobs such as aerial rangers, enforcer,s and warriors.

However, Chasca wasn’t originally from the Tlalocan. She was born with a rare disease that lead to her biological parents abandoning her in the wild. She was lucky enough to be found and adopted by a few Qucusaurs. She grew to learn their ways and understand her Saurian family, but still eventually had to return to human society. And so, when she was old enough, she reached the Flower-Feather Clan’s territory and was adopted by Chuychu’s family.

Chasca is also the champion of the Tlalocan, bearing the Ancient Name of “Vuka” which means “Transcension”. We witness Chasca inherit her Ancient Name during the Act 4 Natlan Archon Quest after Chuychu’s unfortunate death. She was the last warrior needed for Natlan to turn the tides of the war against the Abyss.

Chasca’s Stats

Chasca is an attack scaling, on-field, multi-element DPS. The elemental damage she outputs is heavily affected by her Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro teammates. She’s also one of the most mobile characters in the Natlan cast so far.

To ascend to higher levels, Chasca will need Ensnaring Gazes dropped by the Tenebrous Papilla boss and Fangs of varying qualities dropped by Saurian enemies throughout Natlan. She will also need Withering Purpurbloom found around Ochkanatlan. Chasca uses the Teachings of Conflict talent materials to level up her skills.

Chasca’s Skills

Despite being an Anemo character, Chasca does not predominantly deal Anemo damage. Instead, she deals elemental damage that changes based on her teammates. She will mostly want allies that are Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro due to the nature of the Shadowhunt Shells in her Elemental Skill.

Elemental Skill – Spirit Reins, Shadow Hunt

Her Elemental Skill allows Chasca to enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state and mount her Soulsniper: Ritual Staff to soar through the air. During this time, she’s able to shoot single-target bullets at enemies to deal damage.

Chasca gains multiple effects in her Nightsoul’s Blessing state:

  • Chasca gains movement speed and interruption resistance
  • Chasca gains 80 Nightsoul points. She will continually consume points to remain airborne and she can attack with her Elemental Skill via by tapping or holding it.
    • Tapping her Elemental Skill will be considered Normal Attack damage and will deal Nightsoul-aligned Anemo DMG to opponents in front of her.
    • Holding her Elemental Skill will be considered Charged Attack damage and she will load up to 6 Shadowhunt Shells while aiming at enemies. There must be enemies in her sights in order for her to shoot.

Chasca’s main gameplay is to have her allies buff her, cast her Elemental Skill, and then hold down the attack button to shoot Shadowhunt Bullets until she runs out of Nightsoul Points. The 80 Nightsoul Points she gains are enough to Hold Attack 4 times, launching a total of 24 Shadowhunt Shells in the process.

These Shadowhunt Shells are Chasca’s main source of damage and the bullets she launches will change elements depending on the conditions:

  • Chasca’s Shadowhunt Shells gain a 15%/35%/65% damage boost when she has 1/2/3 different Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro elemental allies in her team.
  • The bullets are generated in a “first in, last out” order. Meaning the last bullet she generates is the first bullet she fires. By default, her Shadowhunt Shells are all Anemo.
  • The initial bullets she generates, the 6th and 5th bullets, will be Anemo no matter what.
  • Upon obtaining Chasca’s 1st Ascencion Passive, the 4th bullet will have a chance to change elements depending on the elements of Chasca’s party members (as long as they are Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro).
    • If your other party members consist of only 1 elemental type, there’s only a 33% chance it will convert to that type.
    • If your other party members consist of only 2 elemental types, there’s a 66% chance it will convert to either element.
    • If your other party members consist of 3 elemental types, it will always convert to any of those 3 elements.
  • The 1st, 2nd and 3rd bullets will take on the element of Chasca’s party members, though the order in which they appear will be completely random.

Elemental Burst – Soul Reaper’s Fatal Round

Chasca fires an initial “Galesplitting Soulseeker Shell” that deals Nightsoul-aligned AoE Anemo DMG that then splits into 6 Soulseeker Shells. Each Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro character in Chasca’s team will convert 2 Soulseeker Shells into their element. This means a team with 3 Cryo teammates will have 6 Cryo Soulseeker Shells, whereas a team with 3 unique elements will have 2 Soulseeker Shells for each element.

Chasca’s Elemental Burst still deals a considerable amount of damage and should be used whenever available.

As with most Natlan DPS characters, the best set for Chasca is going to be the Obisidian Codex set as it provides an overall damage and Crit Rate buff. Players do have to take note not to overcap on Crit Rate though, as Chasca’s Crit Rate Ascension Stat combined with the Obsidian set will give her 69.2% Crit Rate right off the bat.

She will want an ATK% Timepiece and Crit DMG Circlet. As Chasca deals multiple elemental types of damage, it would be better for her to use an ATK% Goblet over any Elemental DMG% one.

Because of her high Crit Rate from her Ascencion Stat and the Obsidian Set, it’s best to avoid weapons that have a Crit Rate substat to avoid exceeding 100% Crit Rate. It’s ideal to have weapons with Crit DMG or ATK as their substats.

Astral Vulture’s Crimson Plumage (608 ATK, 66.2% Crit DMG at Level 90)

Chasca’s signature weapon provides a significant amount of Critical DMG via its substat. It also provides an ATK boost upon triggering Swirl and increases both Charge Attack and Elemental Burst damage when 1 or 2 party members are of a different element from the equipping character.

Song of Stillness (454 ATK, 55.1% ATK at Level 90)

An accessible weapon is Fontaine’s craftable bow. It grants Chasca a 16% damage boost when she’s healed at Refinement 1. Since it’s craftable, players can get it to Refinment 5 for a maximum 32% damage boost. While this bow requires healing, it can fit in Chasca teams as it’s likely for them to contain a healer.

Chain Breaker (565 ATK, 27.6% ATK at Level 90)

Another alternative is Natlan’s craftable bow. It gives an ATK buff to the wielder when their party members are either from Natlan or have a different elemental type from them. If all 3 allies fit the criteria, the wielder also gains some EM. As Chasca will mostly want to have as diverse elemental party members as possible, this passive fits very well for her.

There is mainly one kind of team for Chasca and it’s where she is the main on-field DPS. The main constraint of her teams though is that she needs 3 different Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro team members to deal the most damage with her Shadowhunt Shells. The team composition is as follows:

Bennett is a great support for Chasca as his ATK buff applies to all of Chasca’s Shadowhunt Shells no matter what element they end up being. His burst will also still heal Chasca even while she’s airborne.

Ororon is a good choice for a sub-DPS as not only can he equip the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City set to buff Chasca, but his burst also taunts nearby enemies, giving Chasca an easier time to land her shots uninterrupted.

The last slot is a flexible slot that can be fitted with a sustain or another sub-DPS. This team uses Diona as she can heal and provide a Cryo shield. If you have Diona at C6, she also provides a 200 Elemental Mastery buff with her burst, increasing the reaction damage of Chasca’s elemental Shadowhunt Shells.

There can be substitutes for this team, just don’t forget to keep in mind they need to be Pyro/Hydro/Cryo/Electro characters. Potential substitutes are as follows:

  • Bennett can be replaced by Furina as she can give a damage buff and also provide some off-field damage
  • Ororon can be replaced with another sub-DPS like Fischl/Yae Miko/Xiangling.
Though with Xiangling, just remember that her Pyronado will remain on the ground beneath Chasca whilst she’s airborne.
  • Diona can be replaced by Layla who also provides a tougher Cryo shield and applies gradual Cryo damage from off-field.

Should You Pull For Chasca in Genshin Impact?

Chasca is the first character to have a multi-elemental damage playstyle, which leaves her gameplay being incredibly fun and unique. Furthermore, her mobility in her Nightsoul’s Blessing state is the best we’ve seen in the Natlan cast so far. It’s especially useful in the areas in 5.2 that were released with her.

If you’re looking for a hypercarry for your team, enjoy her multi-element playstyle, or just want to traverse Natlan with relative ease, then Chasca is definitely worth pulling for!
