The official PlayStation page has been quietly updated, and now, it is confirmed that the PlayStation 2 has sold over 160 million units worldwide. This number might not seem new, but the last time Sony had officially acknowledged the console’s sales numbers was in 2012 with 155 million units.
According to industry insider Daniel Ahmad, he had already predicted this number before in a long X (formerly Twitter) thread, so it’s interesting that Sony has only now decided to update the page.
The official PlayStation page now confirms the PS2 has sold over 160 million units. Something I had already calculated 10 years ago. We still don't have an exact figure, but this is an update over the previous 155m figure from 2012. www.playstation.com/en-gb/playst…

It is unknown for sure why exactly Sony has decided to suddenly do this, but we can only imagine at this point. The PlayStation 2 has basically solidified itself as one of the most iconic gaming consoles of all time, even after over two decades.
