First-Person Shooter ‘Marathon’ Delayed To Unknown Date

Bungie has just announced that their upcoming multiplayer first-person shooter Marathon has been delayed from its original September 23, 2025 date to an unknown date. A new release date is set to be revealed this fall.

According to the official notice, the delay will be to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects everyone’s passion, following the feedback the developer team received from the Alpha test held earlier this year. This includes updates to the Marathon Universe, Survival Game, and an overall improvement to ensure a better player experience for solos and duos.

Below is a full list of elements the developers plan to improve and fix:

Survival Game:

  • More challenging and engaging AI encounters
  • More rewarding runs, with new types of loot and dynamic events
  • Making combat more tense and strategic

Marathon Universe:

  • Increased visual fidelity
  • More narrative and environmental storytelling to discover and interact with
  • A darker tone that delivers on the themes of the original trilogy

Social Experience Improvements:

  • A better player experience for solo/duos
  • Prox chat, so social stories can come to life
