Keywords Studios has recently laid off its entire unionized QA team previously assigned to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, following BioWare’s decision not to renew their contract in August.
These QA professionals had been tasked with playtesting and ensuring the quality of the game at BioWare’s Edmonton location. Notably, in June 2022, they made headlines by unanimously voting in favor of joining the United Food and Commercial Workers Canada Union, Local No. 401. This unanimous decision marked a significant milestone, making them the inaugural games industry union in Canada. While in the midst of negotiations with Keywords Studios, this team was unfortunately let go, a development that closely followed the announcement of BioWare cutting 50 positions.
Corless, in a recent email communication, confirmed the situation, stating, “It is with regret that we inform that the 13 Edmonton-based employees have departed from the company after the conclusion of a stipulated client contract.”
