Are the console wars over? With Xbox planning on making their exclusive games available on both Playstation and Nintendo, that question could be answered.
With Xbox Series S and X sales falling behind that of the Playstation 5 and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer saying “Xbox Game Pass subscriptions were slowing down” and a change is needed.
The reports so far are that Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves and big Bethesda titles like Starfield and the upcoming Indiana Jones game could be coming to other consoles.
Even with this proposed changes, Microsoft is still making huge profits and the gaming side has passed Windows in revenue.
It is seeming more than likely that this will be the case however with Microsoft acquiring Activision and Bethesda. So, it makes sense to increase multi-platform gaming with the record sales Call of Duty makes every year.
The Game Pass decline is due to delays of games like Starfield and Redfall, which being released in 2023 rather than 2022 was a huge hit for the company.
Stopping game exclusivity will also help those series like Gears of War. There hasn’t been a Gears game since 2019, so with more players and more revenue coming in could lead to a higher frequency of games.
More revenue will also help the gaming industry in the wake of the recent layoffs. Around 10,500 game makers lost their jobs back in 2023.
Playstation does have incredible exclusives, like The Last of Us and God of War, but with Xbox breaking down this wall Playstation players could soon experience games from Gears series, Halo, Forza, Sea of Thieves and so many more.
