Astro’s Playroom Guide: SSD Speedway – All Collectibles (Artifacts, Puzzle Pieces)

Welcome to Astro’s Playroom, a 3D platform free-to-play game developed by SIE Japan Studio’s Team ASOBI studio, exclusively for PlayStation 5! The game is a direct sequel to Astro Bot Rescue Mission (a PS VR title) and is loaded with PlayStation easter eggs that pay homage to over 60 games from across 26 years.

Many easter eggs are collectibles — that’s why finding them is an important part of the game experience! Also, Astro’s Playroom is a straightforward and quick game to platinum with fairly simple gameplay. It can take around 5 hours to finish the story, get all collectibles, and grab the Platinum Trophy.

Astro’s Playroom is structured into 4 Main Worlds (not counting CPU Plaza and PlayStation Labo, since they act as hubs and not separate worlds), each containing 4 Levels. All Collectibles are divided into Artifacts and Puzzle Pieces — and each World has 9 Artifacts and 16 Puzzle Pieces across its Levels.

An important notice is that none of the Collectibles are missable. You can replay any World or Level at any time to collect your missing items. There’s also a built-in progress tracker in the PlayStation 5’s trophy list, where you can keep track of how many you found already.

SSD Speedway – All Artifacts and Puzzle Pieces

The entrance to SSD Speedway in Astro’s Playroom

Astro’s Playroom gives total freedom to its players from the beginning, that’s why it is your decision on which level you want to complete next. SSD Speedway is a World set in space and introduces the Rocket Suit. Here’s how it works: you can use the rocket’s thrusters to move in a specific direction while pressing L2 and R2 and tilting the controller left and right.

To obtain all Collectibles in SSD Speedway, all 4 Levels must be completed. They are Turbo Trail, Caching Caves, Deep Dataspace, and Orbital Obstacles. For this Collectible Guide, we listed the locations for all Artifacts and Puzzle Pieces for each Level right below. So let’s begin!

Turbo Trail

There are a total of 2 Artifacts and 4 Puzzle Pieces in Turbo Trail, the first Level for SSD Speedway.

Puzzle Piece 1/4

At the beginning of the level, immediately turn around to find the first Puzzle Piece.

Buzz Controller (Artifact 1/2)

This one is missable and may require you to restart the level. When you reach the first hang glider, aim for the highest possible because you need to reach the highest platform that you can in the next area. Use the controller movement to adjust and reach it. Then, pull the wire to unlock an Artifact.

Important notice: if you fail and reach the lowest platform, just be sure to not trigger the checkpoint, so you can throw Astro off the platform to try again without restarting the level!

Puzzle Piece 2/4

When you reach the second hang glider, two giant PlayStation rings will appear in the air. Launch yourself towards the first one to grab the Puzzle Piece that is in the middle of the ring.

Puzzle Piece 3/4

When you reach the third hang glider, you will need to avoid the electric enemies in the air. Just before reaching the platform at the end of this section, a Puzzle Piece will pop up right in front of you. Make sure you grab it before landing. In case you fail, just throw Astro off the platform to try again.

Puzzle Piece 4/4

After you reach the round platform with the third hang glider, go to the left side to find a path that leads you down to Pyramid Head, from Silent Hill (one of the best easter eggs of the game, by the way!). In this lower area, there’s a Puzzle Piece.

DUALSHOCK 2 Controller (Artifact 2/2)

In the rocket ship area, there are a bunch of crates behind it. Knock them all to discover a wire that you can pull to unlock an Artifact.

Caching Caves

There are a total of 2 Artifacts and 4 Puzzle Pieces in Caching Caves, the second Level for SSD Speedway.

Puzzle Piece 1/4

With the Rocket Suit, just progress until you find the first checkpoint. Then, notice that there is a hole that you can drop down right on the left. Go there to find a Puzzle Piece.

PS2 Multitap (Artifact 1/2)

As you progress, you will see an alternative path behind some purple vines on the left. Follow it to find a fuse at the bottom that you can light with your Rocket Suit. This area will explode and unlock an Artifact!

Puzzle Piece 2/4

When you reach an area with a bunch of explosive enemies, light them all with the Rocket Suit to discover a secret level right below. There will be a Puzzle Piece.

Puzzle Piece 3/4

In the section with electrical hazards, keep an eye on your right until you see a path that leads to a purple web. In this area, there’s a Puzzle Piece on the right.

PS2 Memory Card (Artifact 2/2)

Right after grabbing the Puzzle Piece 3/4, use the Rocket Suit to launch yourself against the purple web and find an Artifact at the end of the path.

Puzzle Piece 4/4

When you get out of the Rocket Suit, instead of leaving the laboratory, immediately drop down to the lower floor to break a glass that will reveal a Puzzle Piece.

Deep Dataspace

There are a total of 2 Artifacts and 4 Puzzle Pieces in Deep Dataspace, the third Level for SSD Speedway.

Puzzle Piece 1/4

At the beginning of the level, immediately go to the left to find three robot flowers that you need to punch to reveal a Puzzle Piece.

Puzzle Piece 2/4

At the beginning of the level, there is a rock pillar with a bunch of purple grass. Go around it to find a Puzzle Piece.

Puzzle Piece 3/4

After reaching a checkpoint that is near some silver pillows that you can bounce on, drop down to the other side of the white platform (that has an L-format) to find a Puzzle Piece.

PS2 Game Disc (Artifact 1/2)

When you reach a platform with a checkpoint on the left and an electric enemy on the right, go towards the enemy to reveal a satellite that can take you to the other side. Go there and follow the line of coins to the end to trigger the launch of a meteor. Pull the wire that will appear to unlock an Artifact.

Puzzle Piece 4/4

While progressing, you’ll come across an explosive enemy. Press A in the middle of a jump to ignite the enemy, revealing a secret area with the Puzzle Piece.

EyeToy Camera (Artifact 2/2)

When you obtain a machine gun, backtrack the level to the area where you found the Puzzle Piece 3/4 (where there’s some silver pillow that you can bounce) to find a wire inside a glass box. Fire the machine gun to break the glass and pull the wire to unlock an Artifact.

Orbital Obstacles

There are a total of 3 Artifacts and 4 Puzzle Pieces in Orbital Obstacles, the fourth and final Level for SSD Speedway.

Puzzle Piece 1/4

Using the Rocket Suit, you need to progress until you enter an asteroid full of water. A Puzzle Piece will appear right in your way. Quite impossible to miss.

Puzzle Piece 2/4

When you reach the first checkpoint after putting on the Rocket Suit again, notice that there is a path of coins on the right (full of electric enemies, be careful!). Follow it to enter another asteroid with a Puzzle Piece hidden inside.

Playstation 2 (Artifact 1/3)

After the first checkpoint, you need to go upwards while avoiding some tricky enemies. Keep an eye on your right until you see a little hole with a coin. Follow this path on the right to find a secret area that has an Artifact by the end of it.

Puzzle Piece 3/4

Just progress until you find yourself in a room with a red cross on the back. There will be two electric enemies guarding a Puzzle Piece. Grab it!

SingStar Microphone (Artifact 2/3)

In the same room that you found the Puzzle Piece 3/4, notice that you can go through the path below. Follow it (and it will get cold!) to find an explosive enemy by the end of it. Ignite the enemy to explode the PlayStation logo and reveal an Artifact.

Puzzle Piece 4/4

While progressing, you will find an area with a bunch of fans and electrical hazards. Follow the path while you keep an eye on the bottom to find a Puzzle Piece below an electric enemy.

PlayStation 2 (Artifact 3/3)

Finish the World to unlock automatically the last Artifact. Impossible to miss.

That’s all of the Artifact & Puzzle Pieces Locations in SSD Speedway, one of the Four Worlds from Astro’s Playroom on PlayStation 5. For completing 100% in this World, you will earn “Emotion Engine!”, “Welcome To The Third Place” & “Omega Booster!” trophies as a reward. Congratulations!
