Genshin Impact Character Build Guide: Mavuika

Genshin Impact’s 5.3 patch brings about the exciting conclusion to Natlan’s Archon Quest. In this patch, the Traveler takes on the Abyss with the help of the Pyro Archon, Mavuika.

Not only do we witness Mavuika fighting in all her glory, but she also finally becomes playable! Learn more about her skills, best equipment and more in the guide down below!

Understanding Mavuika in Genshin Impact

Mavuika is the current Pyro Archon of Natlan. Unlike the Archons of the other nations, she is a human who has ascended to godhood, which is a tradition of Natlan. What’s special about Mavuika is that she was also the Pyro Archon from 500 years ago. She was originally a warrior from the Scions of the Canopy who witnessed the horrors of the Abyss and fought back against it with Natlan’s ancient heroes.

She saw an opportunity to win against the Abyss in the distant future, so she placed her life in the Sacred Flame in order to be resurrected in our present day. It’s these kinds of tough decisions that truly make Mavuika deserving of her Ancient Name “Kiongozi”, meaning “leader”. Time and again, we’ve witnessed Mavuika not only support the various tribes of Natlan, but also be the one to lead the charge in the war against the Abyss.

Mavuika’s Stats

Mavuika is an ATK scaling DPS that predominantly deals on-field damage, however she has the capability to be a good off-field subDPS for other characters as well.

In order to ascend Mavuika to the highest level, you’ll need:

  • Gold-Inscribed Secret Source Cores dropped by the Secret Source Constructor boss.
  • Whistles of varying qualities dropped by Saurian warriors.
  • Withering Purpurblooms found around the Ochkanatlan area.

To level up her skills, you’ll need the Teachings of Contention talent materials found in the Blazing Ruins Domain every Monday/Thursday/Sunday.

Mavuika’s Skills

Elemental Skill – The Named Moment

Mavuika’s Skill fully restores her Nightsoul points and makes her enter her Nightsoul’s Blessing state, which manifests into two different modes depending if her skill was tapped or held.

When tapped, Mavuika summons a Ring of Searing Radiance which follows the active character around and deals Nightsoul-aligned Pyro DMG to nearby enemies every 2 seconds.

When held, Mavuika summons and mounts her motorcycle, the Flamestrider. The Flamestrider is the most versatile mode of exploration shown in Natlan to date as it can run up walls, ski over water and even fly a short distance in the air. Mavuika’s Normal and Charged attacks are also converted to Nightsoul-aligned Pyro damage while she’s mounted.

Elemental Burst – Hour of Burning Skies

Mauvika’s Elemental Burst is the very first ultimate in the game that doesn’t require energy. Instead, it requires “Fighting Spirit”, which is generated when any party member consumes Nightsoul Points or when nearby party members land a Normal Attack on enemies. She can accumulate a maximum of 200 Fighting Spirit but can cast her ult when she’s accumulated at least 100.

Mauvika’s burst has various effects:

  • She enters her Nightsoul’s Blessing state, gains interruption resistance and 10 Nightsoul Points.
  • For the next 7 seconds, she will not consume any Nightsoul Points and her Flamestrider’s Normal and Charged attacks have increased damage based on the amount of Fighting Spirit consumed by her Burst.
  • She unleashes an incredibly powerful Sunfell Slice, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Pyro DMG.
  • Upon unlocking her 4th Ascension Passive and using her ult, the active character’s DMG is boosted by 0.2% for every point of Fighting Spirit consumed by her burst(max 40%). This effect decays over the next 20 seconds.

Mavuika’s Burst, when used at full Fighting Spirit, lets her Sunfell Slice deal an incredible amount of damage. Considering that it can react with Cryo or Hydro to increase the damage, Mavuika’s ult has incredible nuking potential.

Obsidian Codex

Due to the Mavuika’s predominant nature as an on-field DPS, her best set is going to be the Obsidian Codex set. The high amount of Crit Rate it provides compliments Mavuika’s Crit Damage ascension stat.

As her best teams will be in Melt or Vape teams, she’ll want an Elemental Mastery Sands, a Pyro Damage % Goblet and a Crit Damage % Circlet. For substats you will want Crit Damage, ATK % and a small amount of Crit Rate.

Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City

When using Mavuika as a Sub-DPS, her best set is going to be the Cinder City. While the 2-pc bonus is going to be useless for Mavuika, the 4-pc bonus greatly buffs her team’s damage whenever she triggers a Pyro-related reaction. As most of the teams that want her as a subDPS will consist of Cryo, Hydro and Dendro characters, the 4-pc bonus will definitely be in effect indefinitely. Similar to her other build, she will want an Elemental Mastery Sands, a Pyro Damage % Goblet and a Crit Damage% Circlet.

Ideally, Mavuika will want a weapon that provides a small amount of Crit Rate or a big amount of Crit Damage. Weapons that provide ATK% are decent options, while weapons with Energy Recharge should be avoided due to her not needing energy.

A Thousand Blazing Suns (741 ATK, 11% Crit Rate at Level 90)

At Refinement 1, Mavuika’s signature weapon provides a boost of 28% ATK and 20% Crit DMG which bumps up to 49% ATK and 35% Crit DMG when Mavuika is in her Nightsoul’s Blessing state, making it her best in slot weapon.

Wolf’s Gravestone (608 ATK, 49.6% ATK at Level 90)

Players who’ve managed to receive the Wolf’s Gravestone standard weapon will be pleasantly surprised as it provides good value for Mavuika. While she would still ideally want Crit stats, the 69.6% ATK that Wolf’s Gravestone provides at Refinement 1 still provides a good boost to Mavuika’s damage.

Serpent Spine (510 ATK, 27.6% Crit Rate at Level 90)

The Serpent Spine provides a damage boost so long as the equipped character remains unharmed, and so Mavuika will need a shielder ally when using it. Players also need to be wary of the Crit Rate it provides as when combined with the 5% base character Crit Rate and 40% from the Obsidian Codex, Mavuika will end up with 72.6%, making it very easy to overcap your Crit Rate through substats.

Mavuika’s kit and playstyle makes her a great on-field hypercarry. She’s capable of reaching incredibly Mhigh damage numbers when given the proper supports that enable her to Melt or Vaporize her hits. While it is the slightly less popular choice, Mavuika is also capable of taking a back seat and be used as an off-field subDPS that applies Pyro on enemies.

Keep in mind that Mavuika fills up the Fighting Spirit points for her burst faster when she is in a team with other Natlan characters. While this means her best teams feature a good amount of Natlan characters, she’s still usable without them.

Hypercarry Mavuika

A Mavuika Hypercarry team will usually consist of Bennett, an ally that provides Hydro or Cryo and an ally that can use the Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City set. An example team can look like: Mavuika – Citlali – Xilonen – Bennett

Bennett is mainstay in any Mavuika team as his attack buff and Pyro Resonance synergizes well with Mavuika.

Citlali is a great support for Mavuika as she consolidates a lot of needed roles. She shreds enemy Pyro resistance, consumes Nightsoul Points, periodically applies Cryo on enemies and can equip the Cinder City set. Alternatives for Citlali can be Diona, Furina or Rosaria.

The last spot is any ally that can fully utilize the Cinder City set, and possibly deal off-field damage. Xilonen is a great choice not only due to her defense shredding capabilities but also for the sustain she can provide from her ult. Current alternatives are Ororon and Kachina.

Support Mavuika

Mavuika can provide a reliable amount of off-field damage and Pyro application that can enable other carries to deal more damage. An example team would be: Navia – Xilonen – Bennett – Mavuika

The constant Pyro from Mavuika allows Navia to generate Crystallize shards that she can use to bump up her skill’s damage. The defense shredding Xilonen provides with her skill and Geo Resonance, added with the Attack Boost from Bennett’s ult and Pyro Resonance greatly increases the damage from both Navia and Mavuika.

Other characters that Mavuika can support are Arlecchino, Mualani, Kinich and Chasca. Just make sure to slot in the other party slots with their appropriate supports as well.

Should You Get Mavuika in Genshin Impact?

And with this, Gensin’s released it’s sixth and penultimate playable Archon. Mavuika’s incredibly charismatic and powerful, and if she’s manage to become one of your favorite Natlan characters, then you should definitely pull for her!

However, while she’s still a strong unit on her own, do note that she grows significantly better when she’s partnered up with other Natlan characters, especially the premium ones. Players with that own Citlali, Xilonen or Mualani will have a noticeably better experience that those that do not.
