Here’s All You Need To Know About the Playstation 5 Pro

Today, Sony unveiled a new member of the PlayStation 5 family, the PlayStation 5 Pro. This upgraded console will be releasing on November 7, 2024, with pre-orders beginning later this month, on September 26th. Here’s all you need to know about this upgraded console:

PlayStation 5 Pro Price

In North America, the PS5 Pro will be priced at $699,99. The UK will have a similar price point, at £699,99. In Europe, it will be priced at €799,99 and finally, in Japan, Sony’s home country, it will cost ¥119,980. As of right now, it is unknown how will this price translate to other regions around the world, such as Brazil, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.

One thing that you should know about this price however, is that the console will not ship with a disc drive out of the box. The PS5 Pro uses the same detachable disc drive from the PlayStation 5 “Slim” model that released a few months prior, and if you wish to play disc-based games, it needs to be purchased separately for $79,99.

PlayStation 5 Pro Storage and Specs

Out of the box, the PlayStation 5 Pro will ship with a 2 TB proprietary SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a copy of ASTRO’s PLAYROOM pre-installed. According to an exclusive hands-on video by CNET, the console will also have Wi-Fi 7 and the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is also more powerful, with 67% more cores and is also 38% faster.

As for the CPU, it remains the same as a regular PlayStation 5, with AMD’s Zen 2 cores. The console itself is about the same height and width as the original PlayStation 5, in order to accommodate higher performance specs, as you can see in this side by side comparison:

PlayStation 5 Pro Game Boost & Spectral Super Resolution

There are two features that will be exclusive to the Pro model. The first is the PlayStation 5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PlayStation 4 games playable on PlayStation 5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games.

Furthermore, the console will also feature what is called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR for short, which is an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail. With the faster GPU, you’ll be able to enjoy all of your games in 4K at 60 frames per second.
