While Astro Bot is set to debut, developer Team ASOBI has hidden four Special Bots inside Astro’s Playroom, which comes pre-loaded in each PlayStation 5.
These Special Bots are known characters from iconic PlayStation franchises, and players who can free them will take all four into the new Astro Bot game. They have been added to Playroom monthly, and you need to solve a (very hard, I may say) riddle to unlock each one.
The third and final Special Bot is Ape Escape Bot, which pays homage to the franchise Ape Escape. He is hidden in Gusty Gateway, the first Level of Memory Meadow.
And we at PSLegends will help you find him! Use the guide below to solve Ape Escape Bot’s puzzle and free the character in Astro’s Playroom.
Important notice: you need to have finished Astro’s Playroom at least once to make the Special Bots appear! You don’t need to have collected everything, just finished the game and watched the credits roll.
How To Unlock Ape Escape Bot
Head on over to Memory Meadow and right on its first Level, Gusty Gateway, we need to find the monkey from Ape Escape and make him pop up.
So proceed to the area where there are two bridges that you have to pull some cables to cross over. Defeat all enemies to clear the way and go back to the beginning of the level. Keep an eye on the left to find a wire that you can pull and grab a throwable item.
Now, proceed once again to that area with the two bridges and notice that there is an Ape Escape Bot inside a bush on the left side. Behind the bush, look down to find a purple cloud forming. Then, throw the item (with the Square button) at the cloud to make the Special Bot appear in their capsule.
What you have to do now is proceed until you reach the area with the giant moving cloud that allows you to reach some gray pillars that lead to some coins and trees. Hit the first tree that you see until it drops a banana. Grab the banana (with the Square button) and return to the Special Bot’s capsule.
While holding the banana, go in front of the capsule. The monkey will start dancing and you need to copy its movements. Using the D-Pad, follow the right direction to replicate all dance movements.
My combination was Down, Up, Left, and Right. However, some reports say that the combination changes from player to player. If you fail, do not panic! You can still grab a banana in that same tree and try again.
For reference, these are the dance movements:
- Up – Floss
- Right – Disco
- Down – Jig
- Left – Carlton
If you followed all instructions, you will have completed the puzzle. That will free the Special Bot and unlock the “No Escape!” Trophy. Congratulations!
