The upcoming spinoff to the Yakuza franchise, Like a Dragon Gaiden, is set for launch on November 9, 2023. But the game will not be released with English dubbing in tow. Instead, the up-and-coming title will be launched with Japanese-only dubbing, though a patch containing the English dub will follow suit.
Speaking on the topic is Kazuma Kiryu English voice actor Yong Yea who posted on X:
Since Like A Dragon: Gaiden is a few weeks away and many may not know about this, thought I should let you know the English dub will not be available on the 11/8 launch date and will release as a post-launch patch (no official date yet). Hope you’ll look forward to it!
Though not the first in the series to get an English dub, Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name is one of the few in the franchise that has. The first to get a proper English dub was the PS2 version of the original Yakuza. Since then, the game has been in original Japanese dubbing only, until the trend was broken with the release of the series’ spinoff, Judgment.
Taking place between the events from Yakuza 6 and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon Gaiden sees Kazuma Kiryu taking the identity of a secret agent named Joryu. The shift in the identity comes following a faked death in a bid to safeguard his adopted children at the Sunflower Orphanage.
