Sony is celebrating three decades of gaming with a limited-edition collection that pays homage to the very first PlayStation console.
A Throwback to the OG: Classic Gray Takes Center Stage
The centerpiece of this limited-edition collection is undoubtedly the consoles themselves: a digital version of the PlayStation 5 and the brand new PlayStation 5 Pro. Both consoles ditch the familiar white for a sleek, classic gray colorway reminiscent of the iconic PlayStation launched in 1994.
The outer panels boast a lighter shade of gray, contrasting beautifully with the darker inner body. A splash of colour comes in the form of the original four-color PlayStation logo adorning the side. A special 30th-anniversary logo also graces the back and adds a subtle, embossed texture to the inner portion of the outer panels.
Matching Accessories Complete the Picture
Both the digital PS5 and the PS5 Pro come bundled with a limited-edition DualSense controller. Like the consoles, the controller embraces the classic gray theme, further accentuated by the four-color PlayStation logo and the 30th-anniversary embossed pattern. For that extra dose of nostalgia, Sony is including a special USB-C cable featuring a thick connector reminiscent of the old PlayStation controller cable. The stand included in the bundle also sports the classic gray color scheme.
Each bundle also includes a set of rubber cable ties shaped like the iconic PlayStation buttons – a playful nod to the brand’s legacy. A limited-edition PlayStation poster (one of 30 unique designs!) and a PlayStation paperclip add a touch of whimsy to the collection.
PS5 Pro Anniversary Bundle
Sony is selling the limited edition consoles as bundles. The PS5 pro bundle includes not just the classic gray console and a matching DualSense controller, but also a DualSense Edge controller, a DualSense Charging Station, and all the aforementioned accessories. Only 12,300 units of this bundle will be available, each with its unique number proudly displayed on the side.
The PlayStation Portal, the streaming device that lets you play PS4 and PS5 games on the go, isn’t left out of the celebration. This limited edition version gets the same classic gray makeover, complete with the iconic logos.
Pre-Orders Start Soon
The only slight deviation from absolute retro-chic is the fact that both consoles are digital-only. However, both bundles include a matching color plate for the optional disc drive, allowing you to integrate physical games into your setup.
Pre-orders for this limited-edition collection begin September 26th. You can head over to PlayStation Direct or participating retailers to secure your new console. However, there’s a slight delay for the base PlayStation 5 digital edition. Pre-orders for this version will exclusively kick off at participating retailers on October 10th.
All the limited-edition products, including the consoles, controllers, Portal, and accessories, will officially hit stores on November 21st. Though pricing details haven’t been revealed yet, these limited-edition bundles are a celebration of PlayStation’s 30-year journey.
