Until Dawn, Supermassive Games’ PS4 horror title, is set to hit the big screen, with popular filmmaker David F. Sandberg taking the helm of the project.
Originally reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the movie adaptation is being developed by Screen Gems in conjunction with PlayStation Productions.
Sony Pictures, via IGN, confirmed that the game is indeed seeing a movie adaptation, tapping into the filmmaking prowess of Sandberg. Said movie director is known for hits like Annabelle: Creation, Lights Out, as well as Shazam! and its sequel, Fury of the Gods.
Per PlayStation Studios and Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash:
As our partnership with Sony Pictures continues to grow, we’re thrilled to be working on our first movie with Screen Gems. Until Dawn is a fan-favorite PlayStation game that we can’t wait to bring to the big screen.
Released in 2015, Until Dawn is Supermassive Games’ first PlayStation 4 title, which remains exclusive to the platform to this day. The game has survival as its theme, with events and ultimately, the survivors varying depending on the player’s choices. Its gameplay inspired a series referred to as The Dark Pictures Anthology, also made by Supermassive Games.
