Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s special side mission Graffiti Trouble is nominated for Best Representation in the GAconf Awards 2023.
The GAconf Awards is here once again, which means another year of acknowledging and commemorating the efforts of people within the game industry who push the boundaries for greater accessibility to those with limited abilities.
Spider-Man 2’s Graffiti Trouble’s side mission was nominated for its representation of what it feels like to be deaf. Thrust into the shoes of Miles Morales’ friend Hailey, players take on the role of a person with hearing disabilities as she traverses a potentially perilous construction site while looking for a certain graffiti artist. The mission especially mimics the general ambiance of deafness by muting out a large part of the game’s audio while reducing the speech to a muffled voice.
For having an outstanding portrayal of a “playable deaf character” with “ASL interpreting and simulated hearing loss,” Spider-Man 2 was chosen for the Best Representation category. It will compete directly with the likes of Hi-Fi Rush and Moving Out 2.
To be judged based on the combined results of public votes and the jury, interested parties can cast their votes starting November 27 until December 3, 2023.
The winners of the GAconf Awards 2023 will be announced on January 2024 via the IGDA-GASIG YouTube channel. The program will be all-inclusive, with audio description, ASL, BSL, and full captions enabled.
