Years after the release of the highly acclaimed The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red is confirmed to be working on yet another title in the franchise. Dubbed “Project Polaris,” as many as 330 people within the game studio are said to be working on it.
Announced during the quarterly financial results on Tuesday, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński said “The [Polaris] team is steadily growing, having reached almost 330 developers at the end of last month”.
“It’s expected to grow to over 400 by mid-next year,” he added.
With the Polaris team having reached its current number, it makes it CDPR’s biggest team to date, overtaking that of the group involved with Cyberpunk 2077, which was about 300 people at the end of July.
The number was lower still at the end of October when the group’s count was reduced to 220. This is the same group that worked on improving the base game, the Phantom Liberty DLC, and the up-and-coming Ultimate Edition.
Upon acquisition of the American studio The Molasses Flood in 2021, CDPR’s overall workforce is at 700 people. The Molasses Flood is the same studio behind Flame in the Flood and the same group behind the development of a spinoff The Witcher titled, codenamed Project Sirius.
