JRPG developer and publisher Compile Heart has shared a new video for Touhou Spell Carnival. In it, we get an early look at the game’s opening video.
Touhou Project is a doujin series that started in the NEC PC-9801 in 1996. Ever since the first release, its creator ZUN has been highly receptive of fan projects based on the universe.
Due to this, the series had multiple developers making spin-offs over time. In fact, back in 2014, Sony started a Play, Doujin! initiative to take some of those to their systems.
Touhou Spell Carnival is a project by Compile Heart and developer Sting. It’s a strategy RPG that combines tactics and bullet hell in a complex fashion fitting for the latter’s expertise.
The Japanese opening movie features the song Scarlet Destiny by the band Kisida Kyodan & The Akebosi Rockets. Lyrics come from ichigo, while ZUN himself is responsible for the composition.

Spell Carnival comes to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on June 6, 2024 in Japan. There has been no announcement for an English edition as of the publication of this news piece.
