Until Dawn is getting remastered for the PlayStation 5 console, publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Ballistic Moon announced. It is the same horror interactive title, released in 2015, by Supermassive Games. The original game remains exclusive to the PS4 to this day.
Rebuilt and enhanced for the next-gen platform, Until Dawn leverages the power of Unreal Engine 5 in developing a “movie-like cinematography, refined gameplay mechanics, and more”. The original game brought to the audience the graphical prowess of the PS4. But with visual enhancements, the game’s cinematic experience is expected to look better than ever.
Featuring the same old characters, they’re brought to life by an all-star cast, like Brett Dalton, Hayden Pannetierre, etc. Using visual cues, like their nuanced facial animation, players get to know them more and even get clues about who is more likely to survive any predicament. Yet, who will survive among the game’s nine unique characters rests on the choices of the player.
More than just a visual enhancement, the remastered version adds more content to the game, too. Namely, new collectibles, new environments to interact and explore, and re-cut narratives that add depth to the game’s mysteries. Lastly, the game also offers a better third-person camera view, made more compelling with a “brand-new musical score and re-authored audio”.
The remastered version is slated for launch in 2024. Alongside PS5, the game is also releasing on PC.
