Riot Games has officially launched its tactical competitive first-person shooter, Valorant, on PlayStation 5. Following the success of its PC version, which debuted in June 2020, Valorant is now free to play on the PlayStation platform, expanding its reach to players in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Brazil.
“We’ve received so much valuable feedback from players during the Limited Beta, and feel confident to deliver on our gameplay promise for console players,” said Arnar Gylfason, production director of Valorant.
The PlayStation 5 version of Valorant promises the same content and updates as the PC version. Players can expect simultaneous platform releases of all live patch balances, new agents, maps, premium content, and additional live service features.
Valorant, which draws inspiration from Valve’s Counter-Strike, introduces unique Agents with special abilities and superpowers in 5v5 matches. Players select from 24 Agents to engage in tactical first-person shooter battles across various ranked and unranked modes. The strategic gameplay and diverse character roster have been key factors in the game’s popularity.
Since June 14, the PlayStation 5 version has been available in a limited beta, allowing a select group of players to test the game and provide crucial feedback. The console release supports crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox, although players will not be matched against PC players. This is intentional to ensure a balanced and enjoyable experience tailored specifically for console gamers using controllers instead of keyboard and mouse.
PlayStation Plus subscribers also have an exclusive cosmetic launch bundle available to claim. The VALORANT X PS+ Launch Bundle includes:
- 2x Team Ace Gun Buddy
- 1x NO LIMITS Player Card
- 1x Ego Spray
- 1x Origin Spray
- 10x Radianite Points
Note that all items included are cosmetic and do not have any affect on gameplay.
