Square Enix has revealed more details on Visions of Mana. With a new video and a blog post on PS.Blog, the company gives us a closer look at the elemental vessels of the action RPG.
Mana is a traditional Square Enix action RPG franchise. It started back in 1991 and had multiple PlayStation entries, including the remakes of the first three games.
Visions of Mana is the first brand new console entry in the franchise in 17 years. The game tells the story of Val, who becomes a soul guard to the Alm of Fire, Hinna, in her journey to the Tree of Mana.
In the new video, we get to see how Elemental Vessels change characters’ classes and alter their battle focus. Examples in the trailer include Earth, Light and Darkness.
According to the developers, the interaction with elementals is at the core of the franchise, making this an important system for the new game. These artifacts alter weapons and the battle style of the characters, with Earth enhancing defensive properties, for instance.
Meanwhile, the concept for Light seems to be reflecting damage from an enemy to another. Finally, Darkness uses gravity, drawing enemies together in a sort of black hole.
Besides those, five other elements should be available in the full game, each with their unique inspirations. Different classes will also have costume variations besides impact battle style and attributes.
Visions of Mana is coming to PS4 and PS5 on August 29, 2024.
