Has Henry Cavill made Warhammer cool to the masses yet?
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is scheduled for release on consoles and PC on September 9th, 2024, after a very long delay.
Saber Interactive, who made the World War Z game, are the ones creating this new game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Warhammer being the grimdark world from Games Workshop, that you can see on any high street in the UK.
At the 2023 Game Awards Tim Willits the COO at Saber Interactive said “we are thrilled to finally reveal the release date for Space Marine 2. The entire team has poured their passion and creativity into this game, and we can’t wait for players to experience it at last”.
With the delay and the encouraging words from Tim Willits, this Warhammer game has all the makings of being a great addition to the series like Space Marine in 2011 or Darktide in 2022, as well as being a standout game as Warhammer games seemingly get released every year or so.
Setting and Plot
This Warhammer game is set in the 42nd Millennium during the Era Indomitus or The Age of the Dark Imperium if you prefer. During this new crusade era to reclaim lost worlds, the Imperium comes into combat agains the alien races known as the Tyranids and so rages on the 4th Tyrannic War.
This gritty third-person experience will have you chainswording your way through a Tyranid invasion as well as skirmishes with the Thousand Sons Chaos Marines. Your protagonist will be the returning Titus of the Ultramarines.
After the events of the first game Titus who was a Captain, was investigated by the inquisition and charged with heresy. Being allowed to return to the Ultramarines came with the price of demotion to Lieutenant.
The now Lieutenant Titus has also undergone the Rubicon Primaris to transform from a Firstborn Marine into a taller, stronger, faster Primaris Space Marine.
Titus is now voiced by Clive Standen (Rollo in the Vikings series), rather than Mark Strong (Merlin in Kingsmen).
Now fighting the forces of Hive Fleet Leviathan on the Imperial worlds of Kadaku and Avarax, Titus will also be joined by Space Marines Brother Gadriel and Brother-Sergeant Chairon who can either be controlled by other players or AI.
Taking inspiration from one of the best fan films Syama Pedersen’s Astartes, will have you fighting you way through the armies of Tyranids in the name of the Imperium.
The game is the usual Warhammer blend of ranged combat mixed in with bone crunching melee combat and all the usual armour and medkits that are now a staple of the games.
