Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya now runs his own YouTube channel

Following his departure from PlantinumGames, famed Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya is now running his own YouTube channel while taking a break from game development. Kamiya officially left his high position at the same company he also built on October 12, 2023.

On the same day he left PlatinumGames, Kamiya also established his own YouTube channel, the “Hideki Kamiya Channel”. For his first few uploads, he posted two versions of him discussing why he left the studio he co-founded, what he would do in the meantime, and his passion for curry—one in Japanese text and another in English.

The game developer appears committed to leaving PlatinumGames because of his “beliefs as a game creator”. But he does not seem to be throwing the towel into the ring just yet. That is, him saying “I’m not going to retire yet”.

Amid a desire to continue making games, it appears that the game maker who is also known for other iconic titles will not be joining the industry soon. Due to what is possibly a legally binding non-compete clause with PlatinumGames, it would be impossible for him to be in the business for at least a year.

For now, it seems that Hideki Kamiya is enjoying his temporary break in the gaming business. He feels “very refreshed” just watching Netflix instead of attending “boring meetings with all kinds of important people”.

But while his newly built channel would be turning heads for people within or those interested in the industry, Kamiya may disappoint by saying that he intends to only post “completely useless” information on his YouTube channel.
