Kazumasa Habu Announces That He Will No Longer Be Working on Digimon Games

In a rather surprising turn of events, Kazumasa Habu announced that he is no longer working as a director for the Digimon series of games.

In his recent tweet he mentions that due to internal changes within Bandai Namco, he has not been active in his role since April of last year, and slowly worked to pass the baton over. However, the next Digimon Story game is still under development despite this, only this time, it’s under a “trusted director”, according to him.

[Announcement]
Due to personnel changes within [Bandai Namco], I am no longer in charge of producing Digimon games. In fact, I was removed from the charge as of [April 2023] and have been slowly passing the baton over.

Please be assured that the team is continuing development of the new Digimon Story under a trusted director.

I am very proud of the fact that I was able to experience the passion of the fans of Digimon, and I would like to thank all the fans who loved my work. Thank you very much for your support.

The last time a new Digimon Story was known to be in development was from a Q&A section at Digimon Con 2022, where Habu mentioned that it would be set in the Digital World and with a story themed around the Olympos XII. Unfortunately, as of 2024, no new information came out.

The most recent game was Digimon Survive, which Habu also worked as chief director.
