Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 glitch shows off tragic fates of some supervillains

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

A hidden glitch in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has revealed excluded content that may be telling of the tragic fates that fell upon some of the game’s bad boys.

The latest installment to the highly-acclaimed franchise sees the players dealing against its main antagonist Kraven the Hunter. A formidable opponent who is constantly looking for a worthy foe, this anti-hero showed his prowess after killing Scorpion for all players to see. But it seems that this ultra-powerful villain may have had more in his kills record than what SM2 led to believe.

While this is by no means official, a glitch may somehow provide an idea as to what happened to Spidey’s enemies from the past. Particularly, Shocker, Vulture, and surprisingly, Rhino, who was prominent in the previous installments of Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Triggered by a known existing bug since Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Redditor Clkzins shared in detail how he managed to access a hidden room in Spider-Man 2. Therein shows a cut content that may otherwise have been included as part of the game’s story-telling.

Heads up

In said room, a trophy holding the heads of previous Spider-Man supervillains appears, which includes Shocker, Vulture, Scorpion, and Rhino. The last of which taking the center position as the humongous horned figure a la real-life rhinoceros. Vulture and Scorpion, meanwhile, are noteworthy for being untextured.

By the power of deduction, it is quite apparent what this room entails. Knowing that the death of Scorpion was due to Kraven himself, it holds water that the trophies were meant to signify the deaths of said other villains.

As to why this content was not completely removed and was just hidden is a subject of speculation. But it would be interesting to see Insomniac Games revisit it for future uses. Possibly, to provide a narrative of what happened to Spider-Man’s old enemies, especially Rhino, with his sudden absence.
