There are already a few Call of Duty titles slated in the pipeline, and one is reportedly going to be a sequel to Black Ops 2. It is also said to be set for release in 2025. As for the game itself, it is going to take place in the year 2030.
Having spoken to multiple sources who are privy to the project, Insider Gaming shared juicy information on the sequel. One of which is that the project is currently under the codename “Saturn,” while still a developing project by Sledgehammer Games.
As a direct sequel to Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 takes place five years after the event of the former, which was 2025. And with the BO2’s main antagonist already dead, the follow-up is expected to exhibit a new villain, worthy of taking up arms.
Initially, BO3 is planned to follow the same route seen with Modern Warfare 3, in terms of the maps. That is, to remake the existing multiplayer maps of MF2 in favor of nostalgia over introducing something new to the table. However, there appears to be a change in the plan, possibly as a lesson from the reception of MW3’s set of remade maps. As such, BO3 will most likely feature a mix of both old and new when it comes to the multiplayer maps.
