Bandai Namco has shared a new trailer for Tekken 8. The video reveals Reina, a brand new character for the latest game in the long-standing fighting series.
In a PlayStation.Blog post, director Kohei Ikeda discusses the character in detail. Though Reina is new to the series, the developers came up with her concept during Tekken 7’s creation.
She’s meant to express a duality with fashionable looks and a dark allure in personality. This also applies to her attacks, which are brutal and swift.
Reina uses an acrobatic fighting style based on a Japanese martial art called Taido. They chose it as a counterpart to the Mishima-style karate. She has agile footwork and an aggressive approach to combat.
Her fighting style was planned along with Mr. Tetsuji Nakano, an expert who won the Taido World Championship four times.
Meanwhile, Bandai contacted Ms. Mariko Shimazaki to design the character with extra attention to details from her background which players will learn about playing the game.

Tekken 8 is coming to PlayStation 5 on January 26, 2024.
