Tomb Raider I-III Remastered’s Technical Director Was Original Trilogy’s Fan Remaker

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Gagiev

Before calling himself the Technical Director for Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, Timur Gagiev was doing a fan remake of the original trilogy.

Celebrating the feat, Gagier, also known as XProger online, made a series of posts on X/Twitter.

While Gagiev’s unofficial remake project called OpenLara has not seen any update, he explains that that was because of a “dream project” culminating from the “last eight years” of his life.

“I’m grateful to the heads of Saber Interactive for trusting me to lead the project and assemble a dream team of true fans,” Gagiev said.

Speaking on the project, the now-technical director said that his team was given “complete freedom” to commit to it from the start. But jokingly describes it as an “impossible goal”. That is, something that can only be accomplished if they work round the clock for the next whole year, albeit as a development team comprised of crazy individuals.

With support from the original developers and the community, Gagiev and the rest of the development team are all eyes concerning user feedback. But more important than the “fear of deadlines and the insane amount of work” required for the project is the “responsibility” to the fans, they claim.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered launched on February 13, 2023, as an upgrade to the original trilogy, including their respective DLC.
