Touhou Spell Carnival New Japanese Trailer Shows More Characters, Music, and Gameplay

Compile Heart and developer Sting have shared a new trailer for Touhou Spell Carnival. The Japanese video presents gameplay bits while highlighting the tracks associated with some playable characters.

The Touhou Project is a doujin franchise started in 1996 with the bullet hell game Highly Responsive to Prayers for the NEC PC-9801. Despite Team Shanghai Alice owning the series, it is open for other developers to create their own works.

This openness led to many titles for different genres to come over the years. Back in 2014, Sony started a Play, Doujin! initiative to have some of those properties come to their systems.

Now, Compile Heart and Sting have partnered for a new take on the franchise. Touhou Spell Carnival is a unique mix of tactics RPG and bullet hell, exploring Sting’s strength as a developer and the franchise’s identity.

The new trailer is volume 3 of the Character Soundtrack Introduction Movie. This time, we get a look at Suisen Udongein Inaba, Fujiwara no Mokou, Komeiji Satori, Komeiji Koishi, and Reiuji Utsuho.

Touhou Spell Carnival comes to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on April 18, 2024 in Japan. An English release hasn’t been announced yet.
