Final Fantasy XIV Announces Public Test For Cross-Region Data Center Travel

Square Enix has recently announced that starting from March 24th, at 8:00 PM Pacific Time, until Patch 7.0’s maintenance, the developers will be releasing a public test for a brand-new feature, called the Cross-Region Data Center Travel.

During this test, players in the Japanese, North American and European data centers will be able to travel to the Materia data center located in Oceania. According to the developers, this public test’s purpose is to identify potential technical issues ahead of Dawntrail’s release in Summer 2024.

In case you’re not aware, Final Fantasy XIV’s servers are divided into data centers. In North America for example, there’s four: Primal, Aether, Crystal and Dynamis, each with their own set of Worlds. Thanks to the Cross Data Center travel feature introduced in 2022 with the Endwalker expansion, players can travel between data centers with relative ease from the title screen, and play with their friends, so long as they were in one of those four North American data centers.

With Cross-Region Data Center Travel however, players can choose to visit any of the data center regions in Europe and Japan, with the limitations being that while you’re not on the Data Center World you created your character in (denoted as “Home World”), services such as the Retainer Summoning Bell, the Delivery Moogle and others were restricted.
