A glitch in Mortal Kombat 1 is enabling players to bypass the paywall by unlocking premium skins simply by changing the console’s date.
Discovered by X (formerly Twitter) user iScream, the bug is shared on the platform in the form of a public service announcement. According to the post, players can unlock “ALL Last Season Items” by changing the console’s date to any time before November 6, 2023. Coinciding with the PSA is a video proof showcasing that the glitch indeed does work.
While the error might suggest a sort of maneuver to get a “free trial” of the DLC, the unlocked content would remain unlocked even after the console’s date is corrected. Thus, giving users free indefinite access to the premium skins afterwards.
The issue did not seem specific and exclusive to the PlayStation 5 console, however. Redditor AdmirableEstimate258 corroborated by saying that the glitch works on the Nintendo Switch console as well.
Opting for the glitch is certainly a promising premise for any MK1 players who are looking to spice up their engagement with the game without spending a penny about it. However, some are warning that there may be a negative consequence to it. That is, the likely possibility of getting their account banned from the game’s online service once NetherRealm rectifies the issue. Worse, there is also the likelihood of getting banned from the console’s online service altogether.
